Dwelling and Decor Blog - Matisse Side chair

We were intrigued when we ran across the recent post from dwellings and decor blog about "elements of color: white furniture and decor". What a great article about how white can work as a neutral in your home. "When in doubt choose white!"

Included in the roundup of white furniture and accessories is the Matisse Side Chair (7) from Bungalow 5. We've been a fan of this chair for sometime. It's such a unique chair with it's "cut-out leaf" design on the back.

Imagine 6 of these in a dining room, then add the Matisse Buffet Cabinet. With these major pieces in white, you have flexibility with rug, drapes, paint to bring in your favorite colors.

The Matisse Buffet Cabinet from Bungalow 5 on it's own is an interesting piece too. Open shelving allows you to show off your prized possessions, while closed doors can hide what is private. We've even seen this piece used as an entertainment center. The "cut-out" leaf design works well with speakers and equipment, while hiding that electronic look. You really don't find such functional pieces as this one, looking so stylish. Luca Rensi is a master of this sort of design.

Above is the Brigitte Side Table from Bungalow 5. Unique oval shape makes this wooden piece versatile and gorgeous and a natural pick. We couldn't agree more!

Washington Post Design Solutions

For those who enjoy a good "before and after" in home decor, you'll want to check out http://www.washingtonpost.com/ and their House Calls section. These makeovers show design solutions to homeowners that have a design challenge.


We are partial to the one above since it shows 2 design solutions that are from Tonic Home. Notice the Jacqui Desk at #1 and the Costello Stool at #7.

The designers concept is to make the desk the focal point of the room. The Jacqui Desk in white certainly does that with it's unique design. What's great too is that you still get 2 drawers for storage.

The Costello Stool adds to the comfortable reading area. These stools are lightweight and just the right size for your coffee or cocktail.

All of these great ideas are from the firm of Patrick J. Baglino Jr. Interior Design in Washington. They worked with homeowner Wendy Grills, who had no idea how to functionally decorate the odd sized room and layout. Patrick Baglino Jr. and Megan Blake of the firm worked with their client to make the most of the space.

The designers website is great eye candy for those looking to see more of their work. We are delighted that they spotted true design style and included our "edited" collection at Tonic Home.

Amie's Happy Chic Home is a Winner

We were so excited to hear from Tonic Home shopper Amie and about the recent contest she has entered. PointClickHome.com has teamed up with Jonathan Adler and created the "Happy Chic Home" contest.

Readers are invited to submit photos of their homes that they feel represent a happy and chic style. Tonic Home shopper Amie submitted pictures of her home and was chosen as Submission #3. We are so excited for Amie and are thrilled to see some of our very own products in the photos!
Over on the right of the bed, by the window, can be found the Jacqui 3-Drawer Chest from Bungalow 5. Such a great choice for this bedroom and the color really adds that touch of happy that the judges are looking for. We are loving that wallpaper and those drapes! What a great combination that shows real personality. This photo is not on the contest site, but one we had from Amie. Here you can see the Jacqui Chest a little better. What a fun piece of furniture, that really holds it's own in this fantastic room. Can I come and visit Amie? Of course, this is the room that I would like to stay in.
The photo above shows the Jenson Brass Wall Lamp in Amie's dining area. Such a stylish and smart choice of lighting that doesn't take up precious space, yet provides just the right amount of illumination for this intimate room. The touch of whimsy found in the arch of the arm plays right into the design on the backs of the iron chairs. So our vote is that #3 is the winner! We aren't biased at all, we just know great design. In Style Magazine Personal Style Test

One of my favorite things to do is to take one of those "Personality-style tests". How fun to answer questions and find out what the pros have to say about your overall style, personality or decor.

While perusing the July issue of In Style magazine, we discovered their "Personal Style Test" and couldn't resist taking a peek at it.
And what did we find as we were answering their questions? Question #19 (shown above) asks what "your backside prefers..." and wouldn't you know, one of the seating choices was our very own Chloe Side Chair from Bungalow 5. We knew right away that we had to immediately skip to the answer, right?
So if you decide to take the test also and have such style as those of us at Tonic Home, then your test will determine that you are a "C" or "The Sophisticate". Of course, what else could we possibly be!

Tonic Home shops Bungalow 5

Just barely back from Atlanta Gift Market, we had a wonderful time and found lots of new and exciting finds for our shoppers. Bungalow 5 never lets us down with their eclectic and modern lines of furniture. We discovered more lighting this year and will have those items at Tonic Home soon. Thought you might enjoy seeing some of our favorite looks from Bungalow 5.

White Jacqui Desk with Matisse Side Chair blend really well together. Office furniture has never looked so stylish.

The new Jacqui 4-Drawer Cabinet is a winner for sure. This chest of drawers can serve many needs in the home. More room from the Jacqui 3-Drawer design and still very popular!We LOVE the sophistication of the Brigitte Side Table. White lacquer finish and tassel-style pull handles make it an elegant piece of furniture.Above is the Berkeley Brickfront Chest looking fabulous. So versatile in it's design and color, I can see it working well for male or female. It provides an abundant storage solution for a bedroom and would even look good in an entry way, flanked by the Matisse Side Chairs shown above.

Complete the set with the Berkeley Side Table. I can see these in a bedroom or anchoring a sofa in a living room. Clean lines and so easy to work into any setting.

Always a fan of the Polo line, the warm white version is my favorite. Shown with it is the Rockland Side Chair. We pair it on Tonic Home website with the Rockland Dining Table, but it would serve as a functional desk chair too. The fabric on all of the Bungalow 5 chairs are so easy to recover, by the way. We sell them with the neutral fabric so that shoppers can make each one their own unique design.

I'm such a fan of the Cadiz Lamp. The black and gold "rope" design look right at home on the Jacqui 3-Drawer Side Table.

The Matisse line and Callisto mirror are quite striking together. The "cut out" design on the Matisse Sideboard and Side Table have been really popular for Bungalow 5. The random design interests me, plus the coloring of the furniture is so soothing and works well when you need that "neutral" piece. I'm also thinking the Matisse Sideboard would be an ideal entertainment center, since the "cut out" area would allow those remote controls to access all the television accessories.

Of course the new Marco line is just fabulous! Who does not love the white raffia finish with nickel nail heads. So sharp! This line was a show favorite!
